Take Me Out to the Ballgame Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Appreciation nights at Cape Cod Baseball League games knocked it out of the park and celebrated Cape Cod’s other home team—all of you who bring your ‘A’ game to work each and every day.

Let’s play ball! There’s nothing quite like a Cape Cod Baseball League game. It’s a real-life Field of Dreams and a chance to see the Boys of Summer play in the greatest collegiate summer baseball league in the country before possibly stepping into the major leagues.

To celebrate Cape Cod’s other home team—all of you—Cape Cod Healthcare organized two special employee appreciation nights earlier this month: one at Guv Fuller Field in Falmouth where the Falmouth Commodores played against the Cotuit Kettleers and the second one at McKeon Park in Hyannis where the Commodores competed against the Harbor Hawks.

Vicki Fowler, a Clinical Records Specialist for the VNA and STAR Team Member in June, proudly represented CCHC and threw out an impressive ceremonial first pitch at the Falmouth game. She attended the game with her daughter, son, daughter-in-law and all three grandchildren. Fowler adds she comes from a family of softball and college baseball players—she even played softball herself growing up —and enjoys attending Cape League games throughout the season.

“I was nervous, but honored to be asked to throw out the first pitch,” says Fowler, who jokingly said she practiced before the game by tossing a few baseballs to her grandsons because she didn’t want to overdo it. “I was just hoping to make it into the pitcher’s mitt!”

Cape Cod Healthcare covered all the bases by hosting a second appreciation night at McKeon Park in Hyannis a few days later. Mike Lauf, President and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare, represented the CCHC team and threw out a powerful ceremonial first pitch with a commanding presence on the mound. Lauf attended the game with his wife, Jill, and son Anderson.

Cape Cod Baseball League games have been a beloved local tradition for 100 years. It was great to see many familiar faces from Cape Cod Healthcare outside of work enjoy a summer night at the ballpark with their friends, families and coworkers.

CCHC team members and their guests were treated to a commemorative Cape Cod Healthcare T-shirt and reserved seating sections. At CCHC information tables, the public appreciated handouts such as small bottles of sunscreen, cellphone wallet cases and compact emergency kits with bandages and antiseptic wipes (which came in handy for some cuts and scrapes for a few in the stands).

Cape Cod Healthcare is the official healthcare sponsor of the Cape Cod Baseball League, which is celebrating 100 years of exceptional talent. CCHC will be the sponsor through 2025, and we hope to see many of you at next year’s employee appreciation nights. We think these special nights knocked it out of the park!
