Stepping up to the Challenge: Winners Announced Stepping up to the Challenge: Winners Announced

For four weeks, 49 teams across Cape Cod Healthcare engaged in monitoring their daily steps for the Summer Team Activity Challenge, which inspired healthy competition among colleagues, teams and departments.

The team-building initiative, comprised of 250 CCHC team members, was a great reminder that keeping active is one of the most important things you can do for your health (CDC - Active People, Healthy Nation). When you’re physically active, your body releases endorphins that energize mood and stamina, ease stress, boost your self-confidence and improve your outlook on life. Staying active will ensure you’re consistently reducing the risk of disease, improving your brain health, helping manage weight, strengthening bones and muscles and improving your ability to do everyday activities.

Shelley West, Director, Oncology Nursing & IV, competed on the team Oncology Overachievers. The team placed first, averaging 17,531 daily steps.

“On the last day of the challenge, I was here early and took away the MAs chair and hid it in my office," says West. “I put a note on her computer that said, ‘You can have your chair back when you hit 20,000 steps.’ Thirty minutes later, I go to my office and my chair is missing. The note on my computer read, “I got 20,000 yesterday. Your turn.”

Congratulations to all the winning teams, the Fitbit winners and everyone who participated!
