Team members from across our system suited up for Seaside Le Mans in support of local causes.

Driven to succeed! On September 7, facilities management, security operations and senior leadership represented Cape Cod Healthcare at Seaside LeMans with their six-person team, Kartz on Fire. Each hopped into Formula One-style race karts and navigated around a quarter-mile track.

Off the track, CCHC hosted the medical tent with Urgent Care nurses Maddy (in car) and Mikala.

Team member Craig Bayer, Manager of Security Operations for Cape Cod Hospital, shares he had a little exposure to racing when working on a pit crew for the Baja 1000 race in Mexico more than a decade ago, but this was his first experience with competitive kart racing.

“People hear ‘go-kart’ and might get a false idea of what racing in the event is really like,” says Craig. “The race karts are high-performance machines, some of which hit speeds of 45 mph on a very challenging track, filled with sharp curves. There’s a high degree of strategy involved to be successful, and drivers must be on high alert at all times to avoid crashes.”

Off the track, CCHC hosted the medical tent staffed with Urgent Care nurses Maddy and Mikala.

The 23rd annual event raised $300,000 for five Cape Cod nonprofit organizations, including Cape Cod Healthcare. This year’s funds will help support comprehensive cancer treatment and care for patients.

“The whole day was a wonderful experience,” says Craig, adding it was inspiring to see the turnout—from the teams racing and the 150 event volunteers to the community support. “I couldn’t help but feel like we were part of something truly special.”

Thank you to all of our team members who represented CCHC. We are already looking forward to next year!
