STARs Shine at Night
Rolling recognition carts deliver appreciation, treats and smiles to overnight teams at Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital.
“Thank you for being awesome.” “So grateful to you.” “You rock for making a difference.”
As the STAR Committee rolled recognition carts through hospital hallways earlier this month as part of its STAR Recognition Rounds, overnight team members paused to grab a snack, share a laugh and connect with colleagues. The recent initiative at Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital was designed to recognize employees whose dedication often happens long after the daytime bustle has ended.
“We wanted our night-shift team members to know that they are seen, valued and appreciated,” said Bridget Torres, chair of the STAR Committee. “Many people were genuinely surprised that we came out during their shifts. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognize their contributions and remind them how much they mean to our patients, families and organization.”
Loaded with coffee, Munchkins, fresh fruit, sweet and salty snacks and messages of appreciation, the carts made stops throughout both hospitals, visiting team members in the Emergency Center, laboratory, maternity, oncology, food service, pharmacy and inpatient units, among many others.
The recognition rounds were created to celebrate employees who often work behind the scenes and may have fewer opportunities to participate in daytime recognition events. Along the way, team members were invited to identify their STAR “superpower” by selecting the value that best reflects their contributions to Cape Cod Healthcare: Service, Teamwork, Accountability or Respect.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many employees expressing gratitude for the unexpected visit. Several team members also volunteered to become STAR Ambassadors, helping to promote recognition and engagement within their departments.
“This is just the beginning,” said Torres. “Every team member contributes to our mission and deserves to feel valued. Recognition helps create the kind of workplace where people feel connected, appreciated and inspired.”
The recognition rounds are part of the STAR Committee’s ongoing efforts to foster a culture of appreciation across Cape Cod Healthcare and ensure that employees on every shift feel supported and celebrated for the important work they do every day.
