Family Birthplace Team Earns Baby-Friendly Redesignation
Members of The Family Birthplace team at Cape Cod Hospital celebrated their well-earned accomplishment earlier this month and the meaningful work they do every day to support growing families across Cape Cod.
Congratulations to The Family Birthplace at Cape Cod Hospital on its redesignation as a Baby-Friendly Facility—a momentous achievement that reflects the dedication of the entire care team, including OB/GYNs, midwives, lactation consultants, nurses, pediatricians and support staff.
Established by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer mothers the information, confidence and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies, as the optimal feeding and caring method for both the baby and the mother. In cases where mothers have a medical indication or have made an informed decision to use formula, education on the safe preparation and feeding of formula is provided, and best practices including mother-infant skin-to-skin contact and rooming-in are followed.
This redesignation is particularly noteworthy as only 20 percent of reviewed facilities pass their reassessment without requiring a corrective action plan on one or more items.
“This designation is the culmination of a lot of hard work and determination across our organization, all with a goal of helping families get off to a good start,” said Kerry Thompson, nursing manager of Women’s & Children’s Services. “We are proud to offer an environment that supports infant feeding best practices and are committed to give moms who choose to breastfeed the best chance for success.”

Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital Earn National Stroke Care Recognition

Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital have received the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award for their commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based stroke care.
Both hospitals also earned the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, while Falmouth Hospital received the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite for meeting aggressive treatment goals for eligible stroke patients.
The awards recognize the dedication of physicians, nurses, emergency, imaging, neurology, rehabilitation and support teams who work together to deliver timely, coordinated care that improves outcomes for patients experiencing a stroke.
