Best Of New England Lamplighter Award: Marketing Communications Team Wins Highest Honor

Three days of learning, networking and sharing ideas with healthcare communicators from across New England ended on a high note for Cape Cod Healthcare’s marketing communications team, which earned the top honor at the 2026 Lamplighter Awards.
Presented during the New England Society for Healthcare Communications (NESHCo) annual spring conference, the Lamplighter Awards recognize excellence in healthcare communications among hundreds of entries from health systems and organizations across New England. CCHC marked a historic first this year, receiving the Best in New England Lamplighter Award—the conference’s culminating award presented to the highest scoring entry—for its VNA of Cape Cod Hospice and Palliative Care campaign, as well as a gold award for the same campaign and a silver award for its Cape Cod Healthcare brand image campaign.

PeopleSoft Team Earns Global Oracle Innovation Awards

Cape Cod Healthcare's PeopleSoft team received international recognition at BLUEPRINT 4D, a global Oracle conference held May 4-7 in Dallas, earning three prestigious awards for innovation and excellence.
The team was recognized with the following honors:

- PeopleSoft Technology Innovator
- PeopleSoft Innovator
The awards reflect the continued support, trust and vision provided by leadership at Cape Cod Healthcare, helping empower the PeopleSoft team to innovate and deliver impactful solutions across the organization.

At 96, Pat Mullin Hangs Up Her Lab Coat
Colleagues gathered in the Burwell Conference Room at Falmouth Hospital on May 29 to celebrate the retirement of beloved medical technologist Pat Mullin.
When we interviewed Pat Mullin five years ago at age 91, she was still hard at work in the Falmouth Hospital laboratory, testing specimens and insisting she wasn’t quite ready to retire.
Last month, we caught up with Mullin again — this time just days before her final shift.
At 96, the longtime medical technologist had finally made the difficult decision to retire after a remarkable 75-year career in laboratory medicine, including nearly five decades at Falmouth Hospital.
“I finally decided the old lady should hang up her hat,” said Mullin with a laugh. "It broke my heart, but it’s time.”
Some things, however, hadn’t changed. Mullin still described Falmouth Hospital as her “home away from home,” a place that kept her active, engaged and connected to people she considers family.
“I’m going to miss my coworkers the most, definitely,” she said.
Over the years, Mullin witnessed extraordinary changes in laboratory medicine, from mixing reagents by hand and drawing patients’ blood to today’s highly automated testing systems. She also worked through major public health events, including the polio era and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Throughout her career, Mullin shared the same advice with students and colleagues: “Whatever you do, you’ve got to do the best of your ability, because someone’s life depends on it.”
In her next chapter of retirement, she is looking forward to spending more time with her family. Visits with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are high on the agenda, along with a few long-postponed projects at home.
Still, saying goodbye wasn’t easy.
When asked what she hoped people would remember about her time at Falmouth Hospital, Mullin’s answer was characteristically simple.
“That I did my best, or tried my best,” she said. “I enjoyed my work.”
Although Mullin initially resisted the idea of a retirement celebration, her coworkers wouldn't let her leave quietly. On May 29, 2026, colleagues gathered in the Burwell Conference Room at Falmouth Hospital to honor the beloved medical technologist, presenting her with cake, gifts and plenty of well wishes. The gathering reflected the deep affection and respect she earned during nearly five decades at Falmouth Hospital.
Thank you, Pat, for 75 remarkable years of dedication and caring for others! Congratulations on a truly well-earned retirement!
