Dancing with the Docs is Back!
Cape Cod Healthcare is proud to support this year’s event as a Star Sponsor, with physicians stepping out of their comfort zones and onto the dance floor this Saturday, March 28.
Benefiting the Cape Wellness Collaborative, Dancing with the Docs raises critical funds to provide integrative therapies, nourishing meals and emotional support for local residents facing cancer. First launched in 2017, Dancing with the Docs pairs local physicians with professional dancers in a friendly, high-energy competition. The event ran annually through 2020, with its last performance taking place just weeks before the COVID-19 shutdown.
In the weeks leading up to the big night, we spent time with a few of the participating doctors as they prepare for the stage. In a series of short videos, they shared what inspired them to get involved, how rehearsals are going and how the organization’s work has impacted their patients and their own lives.
While the mission is deeply meaningful, there’s also plenty of fun and friendly competition along the way. Each video ends with a playful preview of their routines, and one physician is even keeping his dance style a surprise—adding to the anticipation for an unforgettable night!
Naomi Kalliath, DO
Breast surgical oncologist
Naomi Kalliath is bringing elegance to the dance floor with the foxtrot alongside partner Frances Grant. Passionate about supporting her patients beyond clinical care, she highlights the vital role Cape Wellness Collaborative plays in providing services like meals, yoga and acupuncture. Her enthusiasm, and a playful nod to the coveted “Hero Belt,” shines through as she shares a glimpse of her routine and her motivation for making a difference.
Ingrid Hyder, MD, and Hope Peters, MD
Radiologists at Cuda Women’s Health Center
Dr. Hyder and Dr. Peters are each bringing their own style to the competition, with Hyder taking on the cha-cha and Peters stepping into country. The duo shares fun and candid moments about rehearsals, friendly rivalry and the realities of balancing busy schedules with dance prep. Their lighthearted banter, and quick dance preview, showcase both their friendly personalities and shared commitment to supporting breast cancer patients on the Cape.
Damian Dupuy
Interventional radiologist and cancer survivor
Dr. Dupuy is stepping onto the stage with the rumba, embracing both the challenge and the cause. Inspired by his own experience with cancer, he speaks to the importance of the supportive services Cape Wellness Collaborative provides to patients outside the hospital setting. With humor, determination and a competitive edge, he’s aiming for the top fundraising spot and promises to deliver on the dance floor. “I hope I will not disappoint all the folks in radiology because I'll never hear the end of it if I do so,” he says.
Jeff Spillane, MD
Thoracic surgeon
Dr. Spillane is taking on a new challenge, one he admits is far outside his comfort zone. While keeping his dance style a surprise, he shares his deep belief in the connection between wellness and healing, and his desire to support patients in a more holistic way. With a disciplined approach to rehearsals and a competitive spirit, he’s “in it to win it” and ready to surprise the audience on March 28.
