Barton Awards: Nurses Recognized for Exceptional CareBarton Awards: Nurses Recognized for Exceptional Care

Congratulations to the recipients of this year’s Barton Excellence in Nursing Practice Award and Registered Nursing Program Scholarship Award winners!

During the annual awards ceremony in the Lorusso Board Room on May 9, eight Cape Cod Hospital nurses, who were nominated by their colleagues, were recognized for providing high-quality patient care and for their exceptional commitment to the mission, vision and values of Cape Cod Hospital. Lori Jewett, MSN, RN, Chief Operating Officer of Cape Cod Healthcare, kicked off the ceremony with opening remarks, followed by comments from awards presenter Mary Johnson, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care at Cape Cod Hospital.

The award is named in honor of Ethel M. Barton, who started working as a nurse at Cape Cod Hospital in 1926. Over her subsequent 45 years of service at CCH, Barton’s contribution to the growth and professionalism of every aspect of the hospital was exceptional. Upon retirement in 1971, the Board of Trustees named her Director of Nursing Emeritus. The Laraja Foundation, founded by the late Joseph G. Laraja, funds this award every year. Through the Foundation, Mr. Laraja and his family supports many charitable interests, including healthcare.

This year’s recipients are:

Jennifer Beebe, RN, BSN, Mugar 3

Heather Eldredge, RN, Cardiovascular Procedure Area

Alissa Krieger-DeWitt, RN, Labor and Delivery

Charles “CJ” McElroy, RN, Emergency Department

Elizabeth Sampson, RN, BSN, Oncology Research
