Adapting to the next normal

By Mike Lauf, president and CEO, Cape Cod Healthcare
It has been an interesting year to say the least.
We have overcome many challenges over the last six months. And today, we look to the future.
While the future of Cape Cod Healthcare is bright, we are not out of the woods yet.
Do we have plan in place? Yes. And the people responsible for executing those plans will be imperative.
Looking to the Future
We must get better every day. We must learn and we must identify new tools and ways to improve the care we provide for our patients and how we do our jobs. This is regardless of competing priorities. We must strive to get better every day.
The implementation of the Epic electronic health record (EHR) is a significant investment in the future of our healthcare system. It is our collective responsibility to embrace training and change management activities, and to actively engage in the implementation process to help Cape Cod Healthcare ensure a successful go-live on November 1, 2020.
COVID-19 provided us with an opportunity to do things different. Change is upon us. By challenging the status quo, we have already improved the care we provide, our financial health and have become more efficient as an organization. And the way we work in the future will continue to evolve and change.
What has not changed are the Cape Cod Healthcare Pillars of Excellence:
- Quality
- Operations
- Growth
- Service Excellence
- Financial Outcomes & Accountability
Going forward, we will focus on the Three E’s:
- Excellence – Personal, professional & qualitative;
- Efficiency – Improving the way we provide care and operate as an organization;
- Expectations – Continuously exceeding the expectations of our patients and community, because they need us.
We have overcome the first wave of COVID-19. We have faced unknown. We were creative and entrepreneurial; and we were thoughtful colleagues, friends and loved ones for many in the absence of family.
COVID-19 has taught us many things. Change is upon us as we look to the future of Cape Cod Healthcare - and the future is bright.
Thank you for you for all you do.
