A Vision Realized: The Beginning of a New Chapter
A ribbon-cutting ceremony marks the grand opening of the Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion at Cape Cod Hospital.
On a bright and promising day, Cape Cod Healthcare celebrated the culmination of years of hard work and dedication with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 24, 2025, for the Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion at Cape Cod Hospital. The event was an opportunity for staff, donors and community members to come together and celebrate the opening of this state-of-the-art facility that will transform healthcare delivery on Cape Cod for generations to come.
Michael Lauf, President and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare, opened the ceremony by reflecting on the immense effort required to bring the pavilion to life. “The amount of planning to build this facility to meet our community’s needs has been immeasurable,” said Lauf. “I’m grateful for everyone involved every step of the way.”
The four-story, 141,148-square-foot pavilion represents a $215 million investment aimed at enhancing patient care by expanding advanced oncology, cardiology and medical/surgical services. The first two floors house the outpatient Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center, featuring 36 private infusion bays—more than double the previous facility's capacity—and expanded radiation therapy facilities equipped with state-of-the-art technology including two linear accelerators, which deliver precise radiation treatment for cancer patients.
The new cancer center, a shining example of how CCHC is committed to creating a different experience for our patients, our caregivers and our community, will begin welcoming patients on May 12, 2025.
“This building is about creating hope,” said Ethan Glazener, MD, Chief of Radiation Oncology. “Cape Cod Healthcare is no longer chasing a standard; we are the standard.”
Additional guests speakers included Robin Devereaux, Chairperson of the Board, Cape Cod Healthcare Board of Trustees; Peter Barbey, Founder of the Edwin Barbey Charitable Trust; Stephen Brooks, MD, FACS, RPVI, President of Medical Staff at Cape Cod Hospital; and Jaclyn Flanigan, MD, Chief of Medical Oncology.
“In this building, we can effectively treat more patients, while continuing to deliver the latest therapies in a state-of-the-art setting,” said Dr. Flanigan. “There is emphasis on light and outdoor space, both of which are essential to the healing process.”
Earlier in the month, Lauf invited all employees to visit the pavilion before it opens to patients on May 12. “This is everybody’s building. We want everyone to see it and take pride in the work that’s been done here.”
