Meeting our Mission: Two new centers for care
McCarthy Care Center and McGraw Medical Complex open to the public
In February, the buzzing of saws and staccato of nail guns filled the air at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, as renovations began at the hospice inpatient facility. Now the transformation is complete.
On November 15, the McCarthy Care Center, a 10-bed hospice inpatient facility located at 73 Service Rd., East Sandwich, MA, opened under the purview of Cape Cod Healthcare.
The McCarthy Care Center was included in the transfer of ownership from HopeHealth to Cape Cod Healthcare in 2019 and is part of the hospice services available through the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Cape Cod Hospice. With the reopening, Cape Cod Healthcare now offers hospice patients and their families the option of short-term, inpatient care for symptom and pain management.
Upgraded to meet regulatory requirements and renovated for modern aesthetics, McCarthy Care Center retains its home-like, soothing ambiance. The name, given in honor of Mary E. McCarthy, founder of the first hospice on Cape Cod over thirty years ago, also remains.
“The reopening of the McCarthy Care Center allows us to provide hospice patients and their families with the option of inpatient hospice care in a unique and peaceful setting,” said Mike Lauf, president and CEO, Cape Cod Healthcare. “We are honored to continue its legacy of providing an important service to our community.”
Generous gift leads to expanded care in Osterville
Cape Cod Healthcare has opened the John and Marjorie McGraw Medical Complex in Osterville, a new facility providing primary care services that will also expand seasonal urgent care services beginning in spring 2021.
The newly renovated location at 770 Main St., was funded with the support of a generous gift from John and Marjorie McGraw of Osterville, who have also supported the expansion of the Dogs on Call Program at Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital.
Cape Cod Healthcare Osterville Primary Care opened in September with year-round primary care services led by Matthew Rittel, MD, and capacity for up to three additional primary care providers. Osterville Primary Care will also offer on-site laboratory services. A seasonal urgent care center will provide additional patient access to care during the busy summer months.
“The addition of year-round primary care and future seasonal urgent care at the new John and Marjorie McGraw Medical Complex in Osterville represents our commitment to increased access to the highest quality care for our community,” said Lauf. “We extend our sincere gratitude to the McGraw family and others who continue to support our mission to provide the best possible care for our patients on Cape Cod.”
