Riverview Students’ Success Celebrated Riverview Students’ Success Celebrated

Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital hosted events to shine the spotlight on students who completed their final rotations through the Project SEARCH internship program.

Cape Cod Healthcare and the Riverview School wrapped up another successful year with achievement celebrations on June 1, 2023, for 16 students (eight students per hospital), who completed final rotations at Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital through the school’s Project SEARCH intern program, a one-year internship available to students in their last year at Riverview. The program provides a unique, business-led, school-to-work transition program for students with developmental disabilities that takes place entirely in a workplace setting. This is the eighth year of collaboration between CCHC and Project SEARCH.

Celebrations were held at both hospitals to recognize the students who completed their final rotations and to thank all the departments who worked hard this year to ensure the students had the best internship experience possible. The departments included: Blood Donor Center, Nursing, Emergency Room, Operating Room, Food Services, Outpatient Rehab, Housekeeping, Sterile Processing, Impatient Pharmacy, Information Systems and Materials Management.

“There are many managers, departments and staff who have really embraced these interns,” says Michelle Skarbek, Vice President of Human Resources at Cape Cod Healthcare. “As a result, we have hired five of these students who interned last year into regular positions in Food Services, Human Resources and the Blood Donor Center. And we have hired three students from this year’s rotation. Project SEARCH continues to bring in great people and it is a program that managers, employees and the interns really enjoy.”

Later this summer, Project SEARCH will be honoring Riverview School and Cape Cod Healthcare for Excellence in Employment Outcomes. Both Project SEARCH programs at Falmouth Hospital and Cape Cod Hospital will be receiving the honor as 70 percent or greater of the 2021-22 cohort is competitively employed at 16 hours or more. Instructors Nikki Baldwin and Amy Carroll will receive the award at the national Project SEARCH conference.

Congratulations to all of the student interns on their outstanding achievements!
