New Hires: Welcome to the Team! New Hires: Welcome to the Team!

A newly reimagined employee-orientation program, launched in person this week, aims to reinforce “you made the right decision by joining CCHC.”

A hairstylist finally fulfills her dream of working in the healthcare industry as an emergency room night unit secretary at Cape Cod Hospital. A school nurse makes a 180-degree career switch and is now an RN for a cardiologist in Hyannis. A mental healthcare worker seeks change and is currently working the night shift as a security officer at Cape Cod Hospital. An EMT takes his career in a different direction by stepping into the role of an orthopedic tech in Falmouth.

These were just some of the stories shared by nine new Cape Cod Healthcare employees during introductions at CCHC Rising Stars—New Employee Orientation,” a newly reimagined onboarding experience that launched on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, at the Lorusso Boardroom at Cape Cod Hospital. Many of the new employees share a common story—they were seeking a career change, a supportive work culture and a community environment.

The half-day workshop, streamlined from the former two-day orientation, featured team-building activities, such as forming a circle and passing a ball around labeled with phrases such as “A risk I’d like to take” and “What I value most in a team member.” Wherever a participant’s thumb landed, the question or phrase there required a response. The morning also featured slide presentations reinforcing the CCHC STAR model of Service, Teamwork, Attitude and Respect; short videos from senior leadership about CCHC’s mission, vision and core values; and creating awareness regarding diversity, inclusion and belonging.

New hires received a Cape Cod Healthcare tote bag, a journal, welcome guide and a seed card to plant in the ground that blooms flowers in the spring. “It’s a great way to say, watch how you are going to grow with us,” says Bridget Torres, professional and organizational development consultant and program design and development. “We want to reinforce today that you made the right decision.”
