New Blood Donor Portal: What You Need to Know
Blood donors can track donations, check vital results, schedule appointments and find blood drives
Cape Cod Healthcare will enhance the blood donor experience and make donating blood easier through a blood donor portal launched on Monday. The Blood Center recently installed new software, called SoftRecruit, that allows donors to schedule and change appointments online and eliminates the need for staff to do it for them.
“It’s an exciting launch for us,” says Jonathan DeCoste, Senior Blood Donor Recruiter at Cape Cod Healthcare. “It has great advantages from the donor side because they will be able to go into the system and make their own appointment, easily find blood drives, track donations and also find information from their last donation, such as their blood pressure, pulse and iron level.”
The new portal allows blood donors to:
- Schedule donation appointments at the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Blood Donor Center inside Cape Cod Hospital or at one of Cape Cod Healthcare’s community blood drives.
- Track donation frequency.
- Keep a record of vitals such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and hemoglobin level from each donation.
- Receive email reminders for appointments and upcoming donation eligibility based on timing of last appointment.
To ensure the safety of donors and staff, COVID-19 safety protocols are in place in the donation environment, including social distancing and a maximum of two donation appointments available every 20 minutes. Donations made through the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Blood Donor Center at Cape Cod Healthcare stay on the Cape to help friends and neighbors instead of being transferred out of the community.
