10 Questions with Anthony Guglielmo

Anthony Guglielmo, who has worked at Cape Cod Hospital for 30 years, takes pride in cleaning patients’ rooms, keeping people safe and making sure things are done right at the hospital. His goal every day is stay positive and often tells coworkers, “We are going to have a good day today.”
1. What was your very first job?
I worked in construction with my father. I was 10 years old and I did masonry construction. We worked all over the Cape. We worked for Davenport. We did commercial construction, including the banks, expansions, big construction projects.
2. What are your favorite songs?
I like songs from the ’80s, like Air Supply and Journey. I’m an ’80s guy.
3. Who would you like to have dinner with?
I’d love to have dinner with my mother. She passed away about a year ago. I was close with her and I’d love to see her again.
4. What’s the best way to start day?
I usually get up in the morning, get a cup of coffee from Casual Gourmet at the hospital. I look around and see if things need to be picked up. I make things look neat. If something isn’t in place, I would put it in place. I try to make it better.
5. What is the most important thing to you?
I like to make people happy. I like to see the expressions of people’s faces. I look in their eyes. I like to see how I can things better. I try to take a negative and turn it into a positive.
6. What’s one thing people may not know about you?
A lot of people know me. Whatever I tell you, they know me. I talk to everybody. When I come into work in the morning, I greet people. I make a conversation and help keep everyone motivated. I try to make a difference. People who are visiting the hospital and don’t know where they are going, I’m going to help them. I try to keep a good, positive level.
7. What’s the next thing on your to-do list?
I want to go to Hawaii. I have never been and I’m trying to plan a trip. I have been to a lot of places, but one place I want to go is Hawaii and that is on my list. People say to me, “Tony, don’t you want to go to Maui?” Yes, it sounds like a pretty good idea. I think that’s what I’m going to do!
8. Name something that you can’t do.
I have a hard time saying no. I just want to please people. I help a lot of people. I don’t want to see a person in distress and I want to help them.
9. What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy biking and hiking in New Hampshire and Maine. I love the scenic views, mountains and beauty in nature. It makes me feel free and I can be me. I also enjoy working on older cars and going to car shows. I once owned a 1968 blue corvette and I’d like to get another one someday.
10. What are your favorite Cape beaches?
Mayflower first, second Gray’s, then Marconi. We live in a beautiful place.
