Bayview Bog Project
Timeline & Project Plan
According to the DER, the timeline for Bayview Bogs project includes:
- Assessment: One to two years
- Design: One to two years
- Permitting: Six to nine months
- Construction: Six to nine months
The Bayview Bogs Restoration Project will span five years. Like an ailing patient at Cape Cod Hospital next door, the former cranberry bog will undergo a comprehensive assessment for ways to bring it back to good ecological health. The Cape Cod Conservation District will coordinate assessment efforts with Cape Cod Hospital and the Division of Ecological Restoration (DER).
Outline of Next Steps: 2025-2027
Below is a general outline of the next steps and projected timeline for the project:
• Invasive Plant Management (Summer 2025 – June 2026): Initial control efforts will begin in Summer 2025, with five to six treatment cycles planned through June 2026 to manage invasive plant species ahead of full restoration.
• Turtle Survey (June 2025): A proactive survey will be conducted to identify any rare turtle species or suitable habitat on the site.
• Design and Permitting (Ongoing through June 2026): Design work and permit preparation are ongoing, with permit submissions anticipated in Summer/Fall 2025.
• Restoration Implementation (Late 2026–2027): Full restoration work is targeted to begin in late 2026, continuing into 2027, contingent on available funding.
• Public Outreach and Updates (Ongoing): Community engagement will continue throughout the project. An open house and Q&A session for neighbors is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025.
Wetland Restoration Project Overview

The Bayview Bogs restoration project hopes to replicate a completed wetlands restoration effort on the Coonamessett River in Falmouth. The area has seen the return of herring into the river, as well as the return of healthy and indigenous plant and wildlife activity.
